NEWS FLASH! #5

Congratulations to The Duchess of Cornwall, Catherine Middleton on the birth of her son. Tonight I have been working on my Jurassic Park (#226) review, but I have got so swept up in #RoyalBaby fever that I have got waylaid. Don't worry it will be up by tomorrow, but this gives me chance to give you the latest news from the film industry.

While you read, do enjoy this funny picture that has been circulating. I almost died!

The San Diego Comic Convention is sadly over. We have had our fill of comic news for this year and cannot wait until next year. I would like to take a bit of your time to run down two of the biggest pieces of news to be released at SDCC 2013.

The first is the news of a Batman and Superman team up movie in place of a Justice League movie. It's official. Warner Brothers announced that there is officially a Batman/Superman team-up film in development due for cinematic release in summer 2015. The film will take place in the new Man of Steel continuity and will see Henry Cavill resume his role as Superman with Zack Snyder returning to direct and David Goyer returning to write the screenplay. This is a big development as it not only means that a potential Justice League movie will be put off until 2016/17 at the very least but it also means that there will be a new Batman!

Is this too soon for a new Batman with The Dark Knight trilogy only concluding last year?
Were you desperately looking forward to a Justice League movie?
Will Batman look puny to Superman and will the story fit in?
Who would you like to play Batman?

Secondly, Marvel announced that the new Avengers film will be called Avengers: Age of Ultron. This will conclude the 5 films that will make up Marvel Phase 2 in May 2015. This film has turned out very controversially amongst comic book fans as the introduction of the Artificial Intelligence called Ultron does not fit in with the speculative continuity of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In the comics, Ant man creates Ultron. However, because the upcoming Ant Man film will not be released until after Avengers: Age of Ultron is released it leads to the conclusion that Marvel will drop this origin story. This has led to speculation that in the MCU Stark Industries will be responsible for creating Ultron.

Are Marvel Studios neglecting Ant man as a character?
Will this move help audiences keep up with the story and make it more of a success?
Is Robert Downey Jr. in possession of too much influence over creative decision making?
Is it time for Disney to give him the sack?
